the complexity of fashion
until today, there hasn't been a solution for what to do with our clothes at the end of their life. the complex materials and components in garments make recycling difficult, and current methods often downcycle'downcycle'to recycle (something) in such a way that the resulting product is of a lower value than the original item. or degrade the quality. through cycora's new advanced regeneration technology, we now have a fully circular solution that maintains the high quality of our materials life cycle after life cycle.
fig.1
end-of-life textiles are sorted, consolidated, and diverted from landfill or incineration. they’re then shredded and fed into our machines to separate mixed fibers like cotton, nylon and wool.
fig.2
additives like dyes and finishes are removed to further purify the raw materials at a molecular level, prepping them to turn into new, high-quality cycora® material.
why our technology is needed
the state of fashion is a complex challenge – from material creation and finite raw resources, to consumption and disposal.
50%+ of global fiber production is polyester, making it the most widely used and fastest growing textile fiber in the world.1

~99% of garments are landfilled, incinerated, or downcycled at the end of their life.2
2 Textile Exchange, 2022
